Arsenal have the opportunity to move one step closer towards the Champions League qualification as they entertain Wigan in the midweek action. If Arsenal take three points from this home match, then they will almost be sure of a top four place in the Premier league. There are only two matches left in the season, but Arsenal are currently fifth in the table as a result of playing a game less than their rivals Chelsea and Tottenham. Their game in hand against Wigan will be played in the midweek, while the final game of the season will be at Newcastle.
Due to the fact that both teams are struggling down near the bottom of the table, Arsenal are expected to get three points against Wigan. Manager Arsene Wenger has recalled how his team were not given a chance of finishing in the top four only a few months ago. He has said his players should take this impressive form of the team in recent weeks and complete the job. As a result of the recent dropped points for Tottenham, Arsenal’s destiny is in their own hands. If they win the last two matches, they can continue their impressive record of qualifying for the Champions League group stages without fail for almost 2 decades.
“We are in a position where our destiny depends on us and we want to now finish the job. Two months ago we had no chance to be where we are so we can only be happy. We have rebuilt the team and since January we have done very well if you look at the number of points we have taken compared to the other teams. We have created a good basis and that stability can help us to start strong next season,” said Wenger ahead of the Wigan match.
