Arsenal have been interested in Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler for quite a while now. It was heavily rumoured during the January transfer window that Arsenal would be making a £ 40 million offer for the youngster, who is rated as one of the top talents in European football. The German international has also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City during this period.
However, it was certain that he favoured a move to Arsenal since he would be getting regular first-team football from the start.
Arsenal have already signed a number of German players in the last few years, and it would also help Draxler settle at the Emirates stadium. After the move failed to progress in the January transfer window, it was highly anticipated that Arsenal would return with the new offer during the summer.
Even if they do so, it now looks unlikely that Draxler will leave this summer after his agent confirmed that his client intends to stay at Schalke for another year. The comments were also reiterated by the club chairman, Clemens Torries, who said a few months ago that there was a possibility of Draxler leaving the club.
Striker Jefferson Farfan has also been linked with an exit in the last few months, according to the pays bas chili cote website.
“Why should a player leave the club if the club have just built a top team? I also think it’s good if players stick to what they have signed. It would take an awful lot to happen for one of the two [Draxler or Jefferson Farfan] to leave. And even then I’m not sure it would be possible. The players understand that there is currently a lot of peace at the club and a lot of optimism about their future there,” said the player’s agent, which could force Arsenal to look elsewhere.
