Djourou set for exit?

There have been plenty of rumours surrounding Johan Djourou’s future for the past few months although it now appears as though the player could be one step closer to a move out of the Emirates Stadium. The 25-year-old’s agent has stated that there is a possibility that Arsenal will sell or loan him out in January, with Napoli the rumoured destination.

Even though Djourou joined the club all the way back in 2004, he has struggled immensely to cement himself in the Gunners’ first team and this has meant that his future has been in jeopardy for some time. In fact, there were plenty of reports linking with a move out of Arsenal in the summer, with some indicating that Arsene Wenger had blocked the move at the last moment.

However, it is once again clear that the Switzerland international is not a serious part of Wenger’s plans having not made one appearance for the club in the Premier League this term. Admittedly, he did feature in the 6-1 demolition of Coventry in the Carling Cup several weeks ago, but the majority of his football has arrived on the international scene.

Following such a lack of action, it looks as though the defender has finally lost patience with the club. It has recently come to light that Napoli still have an interest in the player and following on from this, his agent has spoken on the subject. Flavio Ferraria told Radio Crc, “In football anything is possible, but there has been no contact with them for now. I agree that Djourou would be a useful addition for Napoli, but only in January when we find out whether Arsenal want to keep him or send him out on loan. He is fit, but things can go like this sometimes. Maybe in a few weeks Djourou will be a regular for Arsenal.”
